In the opener, St. Lawrence scored three runs on three hits in the first inning and one in the second on a home run by Carter Franz for a 4-0 lead. The Saints increased the margin to five with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. RPI plated one in its final at bat when junior
Tanner Boucher (Keene, NH / Keene) stole home.
Junior righthander
Mike Campisi (Kings Park, NY / Kings Park) went the distance for the Engineers, allowing four earned runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out three.
Sophomore catcher
Eric Kozak (New York, NY / Dalton School) paced the RPI offense as he collected two of the team's four hits, all singles. Also in the game, senior outfielder
Kyle LaVigne (Ashland, MA / Ashland) saw his 20-game hitting streak come to an end as he went 0 for 3.
Kozak picked up three more hits in the second game but it was not enough as his teammates managed only four others.
For the second straight game the home team jumped on the board early, scoring three runs on five hits in the third inning. The Saints tacked on single runs in each of the next two innings for a 5-0 edge after five innings.
It was 6-0 before RPI got on the board in the eighth inning when LaVigne scored on a sacrifice fly by senior
Art Levenson (San Diego, CA / University City). Three unearned runs off reliever Kyle Donaldson brought the Engineers to within two runs, but they could get no closer.
Senior
Levi Washburn (Gansevoort, NY / Schuylerville) started for Rensselaer, lasting 4.0 innings in the loss. Classmate
Jason Griffith (Lititz, PA / Warwick) pitched the next 4.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits.
