TROY, N.Y. - The Williams College baseball team plated a run in the top of the ninth to break a 5-5 tie and held on for a 6-5 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), in non-league action from Robison Field. With the win, the Ephs improve to 12-17 overall, while the Engineers drop to 16-16.

Freshman Luke Pierce (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth School) reached on an error in the top of the ninth inning, scoring junior Darren Hartwell (North Reading, mA/North Reading) from third to score the eventual game-winning run.

The Ephs opened the scoring in the top of the second, on an RBI-single by junior Chance Rueger (Ashley Falls, MA/Horchkiss). Freshman catcher Phil McGovern (Nutley, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) then ripped his third home run of the year in the third to make it 2-0.

Rensselaer battled back to take a 3-2 lead after four, as senior Art Levenson (San Diego, CA/University City) and junior Kevin Prosicki (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) each delivered run-scoring singles.

After Pierce tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, the Engineers regained the lead on an RBI-groundout by junior Tanner Boucher (Keene, NH/Keene), while scored senior Kyle LaVigne (Ashland, MA/Ashland).

A two-run sixth by the Ephs – highlighted by RBI-doubles from Cameron Susk (Woodside, CA/Crystal Springs Uplands) and K.C. Murphy (Hingham, MA/Hingham) – gave the visitors a 5-4 lead, but the Engineers quickly tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the frame on a single through the right side by junior Jonny Rio (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia).

Harry Marino (Westfield, NJ/Delbarton) earned the win for the Ephs, throwing a perfect eighth inning. RPI senior Dan Duval (Middleton, MA/Masconomet) took the loss, allowing one run on four hits through 3.0 innings.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they take on Skidmore for a four-game Liberty League series. Williams hosts Eastern Nazarene on Thursday (4pm).
