TROY, N.Y. – Junior Chuck Erickson hit a game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the ninth before classmate Tanner Boucher drilled a walk-off two-run homer in the 10th to give the Rensselaer baseball team a come-from-behind, 13-11, victory in game two of a doubleheader. The Engineers, who won game one, 11-7, improve to 19-17 overall (16-8 Liberty League). The Thoroughbreds drop to 24-12 on the season (15-9 Liberty League).

Trailing 11-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two, junior Kevin Prosicki (Whippany, NJ/Whippany) led off by drawing a walk. A solid single to left-center by senior Kyle Kopacz (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) put runners on first and second, before hit batter loaded the bases. A Skidmore error on the infield scored a run and left the bases filled.

Senior Kyle LaVigne (Ashland, MA/Ashland) then reached on a fielder's choice to drive in another run, bringing the hosts to within 11-7, with runners on the corners. Sophomore Eric Kozak (New York, NY/Dalton School) was then hit by a pitch to set the stage for Erickson's (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) game-tying blast. The lefty pulled a Justin Willig (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) pitch deep over the right field fence to knot the game at 11-11.

Seniors Jeremy Lockwood-Menard (Chelsea, PQ/Ashbury College) and Jason Griffith (Lititz, PA/Warwick) combined to hold the Thoroughbreds scoreless in the top of the 10th, as the Engineers were able to win it in the bottom half of the frame.

Once again the catalyst, Prosicki led off the RPI 10th with a single through the right side. A balk sent him to second and a sacrifice by Kopacz moved him to third with one away. After a groundout, Boucher (Keene, NH/Keene) drilled a walk-off home run to right center – his third of the season.

Game one saw the Engineers answer a first-inning run by Skidmore with six runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Cody Vincent (Catskill, NY/John A. Coleman) delivered an RBI-single in the frame, and Rensselaer capitalized on three Thoroughbred errors.

Zack Rudman (Pittsfield, NY/Pittsfield-Mendon) and Matty Tatkow (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) each and run-scoring base-hits in the third to pull to within 6-3, but the Engineers answered with a single run in their half of the stanza.

The visitors drew even at 7-7 with a four-run fifth, which was highlighted by game-tying single from junior Leejay Pollacchi (Porter Corners, NY/Saratoga Springs). A Vincent sac-fly in the bottom of the fifth gave the hosts the lead for good and a three-run sixth solidified the victory for Rensselaer.

The Engineers return to action this weekend, when take on Vassar for a home-and-home series. RPI hosts the Brewers on Saturday (12pm), before traveling to Poughkeepsie on Sunday (12pm). Skidmore faces Union on Saturday (12pm) and Sunday (12pm).
