Senior righthander tosses compete-game as RPI wins third straight

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Senior Sean Conroy threw a complete game and received 10 hits in support, as the Rensselaer baseball team won its third straight, 6-1 over Curry College. Over 9.0 innings of work, Conroy allowed an earned run on just three hits. He struck out nine and walked one, while improving to 2-0 on the season.  The Engineers jump to 5-2 on the season, while Curry drops to 3-3.

RPI, the visitors, got on the board first with a two-run 3rd. Eric Kozak and Tim LeSuer hit back -to-back one out singles. After advancing on a passed ball, Jonny Rio drove both in with a hard single to right. Curry answered with a run in the home half of the third. Matt Mallozzi doubled with two outs, scoring on an RBI-single from Derek Pizzaro. 

The Engineers answered with two more in the 4th. Shane Matthews doubled to lead off the inning, and came around to score when Tyler Listing's sacrifice bunt was thrown into right field.  Listing advanced to second, and would be sacrificed over to third by Al Mersman. Jared Jensen then drove a single up the middle past a drawn in infield for a 4-1 RPI lead. 

RPI added single runs in the 8th and 9th. Rio singled to lead off the 8th, and would come around to score on a sacrifice off the bat of Listing. Chuck Erickson drove in Nick Annunziata from third with an RBI groundout. Annunziata pinch ran for Brandon Galluppi, who walked to start the inning.

Conroy faced only 31 batters, going 1-2-3 in six of nine innings. Rio went 2 for 5 with two RBI, with Matthews and LeSuer each adding a pair of hits.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow, taking on Washington College (MD) at 1pm.
