BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Rensselaer baseball team scored nine runs in the eighth inning to turn a one-run lead into a nine-run margin and the Engineers defeated SUNY Brockport, 11-3. RPI finishes its Florida trip with a 7-2 overall record, including a 6-1 mark in the Sunshine State.
Leading 2-1 going into the top of the eighth inning, the Engineers scored their nine runs on eight hits and taking advantage of two errors. A
Shane Matthews double down the left field line plated the final two runs of the frame.
Matthews finished by going 3 for 5 with three RBI and a run. Four others also had multiple hits, including
Tyler Listing, who was 3 for 4 with a run.
Jared Jensen started for Rensselaer, striking out five in six innings.
Tim Gallagher earned the win, allowing just one hit in two innings.
