TROY, N.Y. – Senior captain Mike Campisi threw his third complete-game shutout of the season in game one and classmate Sean Conroy went seven strong innings in game two as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team swept a Liberty League doubleheader against Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) by scores of 5-0 and 7-2, this afternoon at Robison Field. With the wins, the Engineers improve to 15-7 overall (7-5 Liberty), while the Tigers drop to 9-8 (4-6 Liberty).

Campisi (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) scattered 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts in improving to 4-2 with a 2.35 earned run average. He now has four complete games, including three shutouts.

Offensively, the Engineers scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third, fourth and sixth innings to support Campisi. They had 14 hits in total, led by leadoff hitter Tim LeSuer (Oak View, CA / Nordhoff) and ninth-place hitter Tyler Listing (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park), both of whom had three base knocks. LeSuer, a sophomore third baseman, was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs batted in. Listing, a sophomore leftfielder, was 3 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Andre Kalish (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added two hits with two runs and an RBI, while Jonny Rio (Maplewood, NJ / Columbia) had two hits (2 for 3) with a run, and Shane Matthews (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Catholic) went 2 for 3 with a run batted in.

For RIT, Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) and Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) were both 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. In fact, all 10 hits the Tigers managed were singles. Sophomore Ethan Humbert (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) took the loss on the mound in a complete game effort. He struck out five with no walks.

Game two saw Rensselaer break out the bats in the bottom of the third inning, scoring six runs on five hits. Matthews got the scoring started with a run-scoring groundout. A passed ball allowed freshman Nick Annunziata (Neshanic Park, NJ/St. Joseph) to come home from third to make it 2-0. Kalish then delivered a two-run double with two away, before junior catcher Eric Kozak (New York, NY/Dalton School) hit his first home run of the season – off the scoreboard in left.

The Tigers fought back with single runs in the fifth and six. RIT's second run came on freshman Brett Kajganich's (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) first collegiate homer.

Conroy (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) improved to 4-1 on the hill, allowing two runs on four hits in 7.0 innings. He struck out two and walked two. Junior Tim Gallagher (Snohomish, WA/Snohomish) threw two shutout innings, allowing three hits.

RIT junior Michael Burns (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) took the loss surrendering seven runs on 13 hits over 6.0 innings. He struck out one, without a walk.

Both teams are back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader (12pm).
