CANTON, N.Y. - Senior
Grace Tilton set an association record and throwers
Ivy Muchuma and
Lydia Frangos posted national qualifying distances to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's indoor track team at the New York State Championship Meet.
Tilton won the 1000 meters by 11 seconds and set a new state meet record by three seconds with her tiime of 2:52.66.
Muchuma, also a senior, posted RPI's other victory on the day by throwing the weight an NCAA Meet-qualifying distance of 17.34 meters. Teammate
Lydia Frangos also qualified with her throw of 16.88 meters. A graduate student, Frangos finished second in the event.
Other top finishers on the day - the second of the two-day meet - were
Vicky Buehler, who was fourth in the triple jump (10.98 meters) and senior
Cheryl Tran, who was fifth in the high jump (5-01.00). Tran also competed in the triple jump, scoring with an eighth place finish (10.61).
The Engineers finished fourth of 12 schools with 54 points.
A select number of team members will compete next week at Tufts University as well as at the ECAC Championship.
