Andrew Kalish drove in a pair of runs but the Rensselaer baseball team fell to Montclair State, 5-3, in non-league action at Yogi Berra Stadium. With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 12-13 overall, while the Engineers drop to 15-10.
Kalish (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) drove a single to left in the third, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Montclair answered in the fourth, taking advantage of an RPI error and scoring a second run on an RBI-single from Jayson Stolz.
The Red Hawks took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, when Keith Murphy came home on a wild pitch. Left fielder Nicholas Martins extended the lead to 5-2 with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Engineers came back with a single run in the eighth, on a sacrifice fly by freshman
Thomas Desmond (Alamo, CA/De LaSalle), which capped the scoring.
Rensselaer is back in action on Thursday, when it hosts Williams at Robison Field (4pm).
