Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – RPI defeated Williams, 15-3, in a non-conference midweek game today at Williams' Bobby Coombs Field. With the win, the Engineers move to 17-10 on the season, while the Ephs fall to 8-13.
RPI capitalized on an eight-run second inning in the game. Sophomore
Nick Annunziata highlighed the outburst with a grand slam, following a two-run double from junior
Nick Palmiero and a sacrifice fly by senior
Al Mersman.
Williams answered with three in the bottom half, as David Rosas and Jack Roberts each came away with run-scoring hits.
The Engineers added runs in the third, fourth, seventh, and ninth to secure the win. Juniors
Tyler Listing and
Tim LeSuer delivered RBI-singles in the third and fourth innings, respectively, while senior
Shane Matthews drove in a run with an opposite field single in the seventh.
RPI reliever
Greg Echeverria (1-0) got the win after working 2.2 scoreless and striking out six. Williams starter Arnie Capute (0-2) took the loss. Offensively,
Tyler Listing was 3-4 with three runs batted for Rensselaer. For Williams, Jack Cloud had two hits, and Jack Roberts drove in two.
Williams returns to action Wednesday, April 22 at 4:00 to visit Skidmore, their second Liberty League opponent in as many days. RPI also plays another midweek game, as they host Western New England Thursday, April 24 at 4:30.
