Nicole Clancy, as the Engineers defeated Union in Liberty League field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. With the win, RPI improves to 2-5 overall, and 1-2 in league play, while Union also moves to 2-5, with an 0-2 mark in the conference.
Rensselaer got on the board first, scoring two goals within a minute apart in the first half. Junior
Angela Cascio (Wyndmoor, PA / Springside School) scored the first goal of the game at 7:23, as she collected a loose ball in front of the cage and put it away directly in the middle. Clancy (Braintree, MA / Braintree) tallied her first collegiate goal at 8:16, as she shot the ball past a diving Union goalkeeper to put the Engineers up, 2-0.
The two-goal advantage held until about six minutes into the second half, when Union's Laura Pacheco took an assist from Hannah Najar, shooting from about 12 yards out to cut the Dutchwomen's deficit to one. Rensselaer was not done scoring, however, as the Engineers scored another two goals in the last ten minutes t oset the final score.

Kate Batzinger (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) tipped the ball past Union goalkeeper Danika Hornick to push the RPI lead to 3-1. With just over five minutes to play, freshman
Jane Edgington (Amherst, NY / Amherst Central) collected a loose ball after a rebound and tucked the ball into the near post.
Rensselaer outshot the Dutchwomen, 26-15, and held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners. RPI goalkeeper
Hannah Clough (Acton, MA / Acton-Boxborough Regional) recorded nine saves in a complete-game performance for the Engineers, while Hornick recorded 13 saves for Union.
RPI will return to action on Sunday, hosting SUNY Geneseo in non-conference play at Harkness Field at 2 p.m.
