Stephen Baxter won the B Flight Singles competition and the doubles team of
McKinley Grimes and
Brandon Mazzara captured the doubles title for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team in the three-team University of Rochester Fall Invitational. Hobart College is the third school participating.
Baxter defeated a pair of teammates in winning the flight. He downed
Will Dickie, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals and then beat
Anthony Kim in the finals, 6-2, 6-1. He finished the weekend event with a 4-0 singles record. Kim was 3-1, including a dramatic semifinals win over RPI teammate
Sherman Uyeno, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 10-7.
Grimes and Mazzara won all four of their doubles matches, including two on Sunday. They defeated Rochester's top team, 9-7, in the semifinals before defeating a tandem from Hobart, 8-6.
The Engineers are back in action this weekend when they compete in the Middlebury College Invitational.
