GAMEDAY: The Engineers (3-1) play their first Liberty League game of the season when they travel to the defending conference champions, Hobart (3-2) on Saturday.
 
BYE WEEK: Rensselaer has been idle since September 23, having had a bye last week.
 
STREAK SNAPPED: RPI had a five-game winning streak broken two weeks ago when it lost at Buffalo State ... The Engineers won their final two games of 2016 and their first three of this season.
 
EVEN: Through four games, Rensselaer averages 165.5 passing yards per game - both offensively and defensively.
 
TOTAL EXCEEDED: RPI quarterbacks Ed Trimpert (5) and Tommy Avery (2) combined to throw seven touchdowns in 11 games last season ... Trimpert has thrown 10 touchdowns in the first four games of this season.
 
BALL CARRIERS: The Engineers have six players who have at least 10 carries this season ... Five average 4.7 or better per rush.
 
RETURN RECORD: Junior Conor Davies has 14 punt returns for 185 yards this season and now has a school-record 592 punt return yards in his career ... He set the school single season mark in 2016 (407).
 
ALL-TIME VS. HOBART: RPI and Hobart have played 60 times with the Engineers leading the series, 29-29-1 ... The first meeting was October 15, 1910, a 6-5 Statesmen victory in Troy.
 
RECENTLY: RPI has defeated the Statesmen each of the last two seasons, 21-20 in 2015 and 21-17 in 2016 ... The Engineers are 5-5 in their last 10 contests with the Statesmen.

OVERTIME: Rensselaer has played six overtime games in school history and two have been against Hobart, both in Geneva ... The Engineers lost 36-35 in 1996 (Nov. 16) and were defeated 56-48 in 2005 (Sept. 24).
 
LAST SEASON: Quarterback Ed Trimpert threw two touchdown passes and ran for the game-winning score with only 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lead RPI to a 21-17 victory over No. 22 Hobart ... Trailing by three points with just over a minute remaining following a seven-yard touchdown pass by Hobart's Shane Sweeney with 1:12 left in the fourth frame, Rensselaer gained excellent field position on the ensuing kickoff ... Six plays later, Trimpert dropped back to pass but was flushed from the pocket ... He started left and then went to his right, breaking two tackles, before heading up field and eventually running over the goal line ... Trimpert finished with 14 rushing yards on 10 carries and 109 passing yards, completing 14 of 20 attempts ... John Costello caught a team-high five passes for 31 yards and a touchdown (8 yards), while Johnny Ramsdell had two receptions for 18 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown ... Linebackers Brandt Beck and Alexander Greenidge led RPI with nine and seven tackles, respectively.
 
RPI TWO WEEKS AGO: Buffalo State scored 24 unanswered points and limited Rensselaer  to just 89 total yards in the second half to register a 33-21 come-from-behind victory ... After trailing 21-9 after the first half, Buffalo State forced a turnover on RPI's opening possession and took control of the game from there ... The game started with the Engineers jumping out to an early 14-0 lead, taking advantage of a pair of big plays to set up touchdowns ... Ed Trimpert finished 7 of 20 for 151 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions ... Keaton Ackermann caught three passes for 67 yards with a pair of touchdowns ... Nick Cella was the leading rusher with 38 yards on seven carries with a touchdown ... Bryan Hayes led the defense with 11 tackles.
 
GAME 3: Junior Nick Cella ran for 98 yards and a touchdown and two others had rushing touchdowns for RPI, which defeated Western New England, 31-14, in Troy ... Cella had game-highs of 20 carries and 98 yards to lead Rensselaer, which had 242 yards and three scores out of the backfield ... Nine different players had positive rushing yards, including senior Ethan Wells, who contributed 57 yards and a 9-yard touchdown on 17 carries. ... Maliek Kelly added nine yards with a 6-yard score ... Bryan Hayes led all players with 13 tackles (6 solo) and a pass breakup ... Jack Hoggard had nine stops (4 solo) and a fumble recovery and defensive lineman Diego Cuitino made seven tackles (2 solo).
 
GAME 2: Junior Ed Trimpert amassed 234 yards on 11 for 17 passing and five touchdowns and senior Sean Egan accounted for three of six WPI turnovers as RPI reclaimed the Transit Trophy with a 36-14 victory in Alumni Stadium ... Senior Mike Tivinis ran for 88 yards on 13 chances as Trimpert connected with five different receivers ... Senior linebacker Brandt Beck totaled 10 tackles, including two for loss and an interception ... Paul Marinan also had two stops for loss.
 
THREE PICKS: Senior Sean Egan intercepted a school record-tying three passes in Saturday's win at WPI ... It was the 13th time an Engineers player has had three picks in a game ... The most recent prior to Saturday was by Tim Acker against WPI in 2007.
           
GAME 1: RPI gained 493 yards of offense while holding William Paterson to 51 yards, including only seven through the air, in defeating the Pioneers, 45-0, in the season opener for both teams ... Rensselaer jumped out to a 7-0 lead on its first possession when Tivinis scored at 11:50 of the first quarter ... Following a Rory McCarthy interception, Ed  Trimpert hit Rob Law from four yards out just over two minutes later for a 14-0 edge ... Ethan Wells scored his first of two touchdowns with 3:14 to play in the first quarter and Christian Kapp kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired in the first half ... RPI added 14 points in the third quarter, including a 45-yard touchdown pass from Trimpert to Pat Etter, and one in the fourth.
 
UPCOMING: Rensselaer returns home for the first time in three weeks when it hosts Ithaca for a Liberty League contest next Saturday ... The game is part of the Institute's Reunion & Homecoming Weekend.
 
HOBART THIS YEAR: The Statesmen, who were the coaches pick to win the Liberty League, opened the season with a loss to Brockport (34-20) before bouncing back for three straight victories: 31-3 over St. John Fisher, 56-30 against Shenandoah and 34-17 over Endicott ... Hobart traveled for the first time last week, losing at Ithaca, 24-21, in its Liberty League opener ... Senior quarterback Shane Sweeney leads the Statesmen offense and Jedh Downey is the catalyst on defense.
