UTICA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team boasted the second and third place 4x400 relay teams at the Utica Holiday Classic and two individuals had runner-up finishes as the Engineers placed sixth of 12 schools at the Utica Holiday Classic. RPI had 48 points, while SUNY Brockport earned the team title with 150 points. SUNY Cortland was a close second with 147 points.

Alex Ryan,
Domenick Rayleonard,
Raymond Rivituso and
Sean Shannon were in third place of the 4x4 at the 400 meter mark, advanced to second by 800 meters, dropped to fourth at 1200 but moved back to second across the finish line. They had a time of 3:33.80, which trailed only Cortland (3:29.96). Just under a second behind the RPI team was another from Rensselaer withÂ
Rahul Maharjan,
Owen Haas,
Peter Cavanaugh and
Stephen Fajen finishing in 3:34.72. They moved from fourth to third at 1200 with a split of 53.07.
Shannon, a freshman who ran anchor on the 4x400 relay team, had an individual runner-up in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.71. He was less than a second from victory (2:01.06).
Senior
Bate Egbe had a third place finish in the 60 Hurdles with a time of 8.79.
James Zeolla had Rensselaer's top finish in the field events with a runner-up in the pole vault, reaching a height of 4.55 on his third attempt. He was only .15 from the winning height.
In the high jump,
Luke Kovalcin was fourth in with a maximum distance of 1.78, which came on his first attempt.
Rensselaer's next meet is January 15 when it is back in Central New York for the Utica Winter Opener.
