NEW YORK, N.Y. - Josh Cohen won the weight throw, Peter Cavanaugh finished second in the 400, and three men's 4x400 relay teams finished in the top 8 as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) track & field teams made their debuts at the TCNJ Indoor Opener at The Armory. The multi-divisional meets were non-team scoring.

In the men's weight throw, Cohen reached 16.52 meters on his first attempt and that stood up in the 16-competitor event. The runner-up was a thrower from Princeton who reached 16.46 meters.

Cavanaugh was one of two Engineers who finished in the top 8 in the 400 as he crossed the finish line in 50.93. He was less than a second from first and ahead of 18 other runners. Teammate Caden Caron was seventh with a time of 54.36. Fadyia Thompson had an eighth place finish in the women's 400 with a time of 1:04.03.

Thompson helped the women's 4x400 relay team to a seventh place finish, running leadoff and joining Summer Looney, Halle Raina, and Maria Domingo for a 4:26.05. Cavanaugh was second on the men's squad, which was third with a time of 3:27.64. He was among a group that included Rahul Maharjan, Domenick Rayleonard, and Donovan Myrick. RPI also had the fifth place 4x400 team and the eighth place unit.

Individually, Rayleonard was sixth in the 600 (1:24.31) with Maharjan in seventh (1:24.31), while Myrick ran fifth in the 300 with a time of 35.77. The women's 300 saw a seventh place finish from Katie Manning (43.06).

RPI's top female finisher was Emma McGuinn, who finished fifth in the 60 Hurdles with a time of 9.33 with the best men's combined finishers in one event being 
Yathin Vemula and Luke Kovalcin, who were third (1.91) and fourth (1.81), respectively, in the high jump.

In the triple jump, Finn Holohan was fifth and Owen Haas was seventh with Shawn Putman ranking sixth in the long jump. 

Joining Cohen as top 8 finishers in throws was Hannah Rogers, who was eight in the women's shot put with a maximum effort of 9.74 meters.
