MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) track & field teams boasted the top four finishers in the men's 800 meters, the top two men's 4x400 relay teams and the top three competitors in the women's weight throw at the Middlebury Field & Track Meet. Additionally,
Jonathan Craun won the 3000 meters for the Engineers men, who were third of eight schools in the multi-divisional meet. RPI's women finished fifth of eight.
The men's 800 runners compiled 29 points for RPI, led by
Domenick Rayleonard, who won the race in 2:05.14. He edged teammate
Rahul Maharjan by .09 with
Raymond Rivituso coming in third place (2:06.45) and
Alex Ryan in fourth (2:09.21). No one outside of RPI's runners eclipsed the 2:10.00 mark.Â
Ryan and Rivituso later teamed with
Peter Cavanaugh and
Stephen Fajen to capture the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:39.48. They were nearly four seconds ahead of the RPI foursome of Maharjan, Rayleonard, Brendan Kiyak and
Josh Dobransky.Â
Craun earned his first career victory with a 9:01.81 in the 3000 meters, besting the runner-up by nearly three seconds (9:04.70). There were 13 runners in the race.
RPI got a pair of top four finishes in the men's weight throw with
Josh Cohen earning runner-up (14.60) and
Justin Park finishing fourth (13.67).
The women's weight throw was a highlight for RPI, which saw Morgan Daley earn the win with a maximum effort of 14.31 meters. That came on her first attempt. Jessey Bruening was second at 13.40 meters and Laura Davis was third in the field of 23 with a heave of 13.14 meters.
Jumper Ileana Sirois joined Bruening as a runner-up, placing second in the long jump with distance of 4.77 meters. She managed that on her fourth attempt.Â
RPI's top female performer on the track was Faydia Thompson, who was third of seven in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.28.
Rensselaer's women had 43 points in the meet, which was won by the homestanding Panthers (156.50). Merrimack was second (150) and Amherst was third (111).
Merrimack captured the men's meet with 169.50 points with Amherst placing second with 105.
