WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team boasted victories by eight individuals in eight different events on Friday at the non team scoring Williams College Invitational. RPI also had student-athletes compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic, a multi-divisional meet hosted by Bucknell University.
In Western Massachusetts, four wins came on the track, two were by jumpers and a pair were from throwers. Senior
Josh Cohen was first in the hammer (50.41) while also having top four finishes in the shot put (2nd), javelin (3rd) and discus (4th). Among those he trailed in the javelin was teammate
Evan White, who won the event with a heave of 55.35 meters.
Rensselaer's most successful jumpers in terms of place were
Luke Kovalcin in the high jump (1.80) and
Shawn Putman in the long jump (6.61).
Junior
Luke Lyons captured the 400 (49.33), Justin Otteson won the 800 (2:00.45),
Abel Hagos won the 1500 meters (4:09.67) and
Ethan Aspiras took first in the 3000 Steeplechase (10:16.67).
At Bucknell, meanwhile, the Engineers'
Matt Lecky was eighth of 102 in the 5000 meters invitational with a time of 14:12.93. Teammate
Cory Kennedy was 23rd (14:35.55) and
Jason Gibbons was 30th (14:39.74).
Patrick Smyth and
Dan Stevens also ran, placing 67th and 69th, respectively.
John Reed ran 12th of 48 in the 10000 meters invitational with a time of 30:07.77 and
Jonathan Craun was fourth of 47 in the unseeded 10000 (31:08.87).
Grey Conover was seventh (31:19.88),
Caleb Watson finished 24th and
Will Hawkins was 35th.
Dylan Rosemark was 45th of 96 in the 1500 unseeded (4:01.19) and
Jordan Crist was 46th of 66 in the 5000 unseeded (16:03.84).
