MEDFORD, Mass. - Matt Lecky won two events and two others had single victories to help the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team to a second place finish at the Tufts University Quad Meet that also included MIT and Bates. The Engineers of MIT won with 71.50 points, followed by the Engineers of RPI (54), the host Jumbos (49) and the Bobcats (30.50).

A junior distance runner, Lecky won both the 800 and the 1500, winning the latter by nearly two seconds. Teammate Matthew Smalling was third in the event, which had 27 competitors.

Also victorious was distance runner Jonathan Craun, who captured the 5000 meters, which was dominated by Rensselaer. He crossed in 15:01.06 to outpace teammate Owen Szabo, who was second in 15:06.93. The Engineers also had the fourth, fifth and seventh thru ninth place finishers.

Sophomore Jacob Haqq was RPI's other winner, capturing the triple jump in 13.61 meters. Robert Smith finished second in the long jump - one of four Engineers who were runner-ups - and fourth in the triple jump. The others who were just off the top of the podium, in addition to Szabo, were Evan White in the javelin and Bate Egbe in the 110 Hurdles. Senior Josh Dobransky was third in the hurdles and Justin Park was third in the javelin.

Patrick Smyth ran third in the 3000 Steeplechase and Josh Cohen held the same position in the hammer. Cohen was also fourth in the discus for RPI, which will send athletes to Bucknell and Williams next weekend.
