SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Competing in one of the deepest fields of the fall season, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's golf team completed play at the Skidmore Fall Invitational on Sunday with its A and B squads finishing ninth and 17th, respectively, in the team standings.
The Engineers' A team compiled a three-round total of 903 (305-299-299) to take ninth place overall. Leading the way was
Zydon Yuan, who tied for 19th in the 99-player field with a +4, including a 73 in the opening round and an even par-72 to close the weekend. Yuan tallied three or more birdies in each of the three-rounds played this weekend, including four in each of his first two rounds. Yuan's best performances came on the par-fives, as he finished -7 overall on the long set-ups.
Robert Chuang contributed a strong middle round on his way to a tie for 46th overall (+13). Chuang carded four birdies as part of his round-two score of 73 (+1).
Ryan Komp followed closely behind in a tie for 53rd, shooting +14 across the weekend.
Rounding out the A team scorers were
Pat Kiernan (+15, 57th) and
Anthony Chen (+16, 62nd), who both provided solid rounds to keep RPI within the middle of the competitive leaderboard.
Sujaan Singh was a standout for the Engineers B squad, finishing in a tie for 9th individually with a score of +1. Singh turned in rounds of 74-70-72, highlighted by a two-under-par 72 on in the second round that placed him among the tournament's top performers. Additionally,
Matt Hurchalla placed 84th with a total of +26, while
Kam Duenwald and
Nick Ventura followed with respective three-round totals of +40 and +45.
RPI will next compete at the O'Brient Jenson Invitational hosted by Guillford College from October 26-28.
