TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team had five selections to the All-Liberty League teams, as voted on by the conference's eight head coaches.
Gaby Heim was awarded the conference Rookie of the Year award, marking the third straight season that an Engineer has received the respective honor. Heim appeared in 19 games, including 13 starts. She totaled 89.0 innings and went 9-4 with a 2.28 earned run average while holding opposing batters to .213 clip. Among league leaders, Heim is ranked second in opposing batting average, sixth in earned run average and wins, as well as seventh in strikeouts.
Callista Adorno was named first team all-league after posting the second-highest batting average in the conference (.417). Adorno's 48 hits were the fourth-most in the league, while her five home runs and 31 runs batted in listed fifth and eighth, respectively.
Ava Markert and
Evann McDowell were both honored on the conference's second team, while Heim and
Sydney Speanburg received honorable mention accolades. Markert was tied for second with 14 wins in the circle, and her 2.04 ERA was fourth-best among league pitchers. Her 75 strikeouts ranked sixth in the league as well. McDowell had the most sacrifice at-bats in the league (18) and was one of the top fielders in the conference with a .976 fielding percentage. Speanburg was sixth in the league with 44 hits and had the 10th-highest on-base percentage (.451).
Competing in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship for the third straight spring, the Engineers will play their first regional contest of the tournament against Tufts tomorrow at 1:30 pm at host Rowan University.
