A native of Seattle, Wash., Hartman is one of only five student-athletes in RPI history to be crowned a National Champion, winning the 200-breaststroke at the 2004 NCAA National Championships. A five-time National All-American and three-time Honorable Mention, she remains the school and UCAA record holder in four individual events. She was a multiple league champion and claimed 11 New York State titles, including five as a freshman.

A two-time captain, Hartman's most outstanding season came as a senior when she garnered UCAA and New York State Swimmer of the Year honors on her way to Nationals. In addition to winning the 200-breast championship, Hartman earned Honorable Mention in the 200-individual medley.

Recognized as the RPI Freshman and Athlete of the Year, as well as Career Athlete honoree, she was also an NYSWCAA Barbara Radef Award recipient and a National Academic All-American. Hartman, a former standout at Garfield High School, graduated in 2004 with a degree in civil engineering.
