TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly women's ice hockey award winners for the week ending November 2 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Alisa Harrison was chosen as the conference's Rookie of the Week for her performance in the Engineers weekly league sweep. Also recognized were
Allison Wright and
Sonja van der Bliek, who were both named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
A center from Vienna, Va., Harrison tallied a goal and three assists for a team-high four points to help Rensselaer to a 2-0-0 record last week. In Friday's 5-1 victory at Brown, she scored a power play goal and assisted on two others, including the game-winning tally. She then recorded her team-high eighth assist as the Engineers picked up their first-ever victory over Yale, 2-1, the following day.
Through nine games this season, Harrison leads the team in scoring with two goals and eight assists for 10 points. She also ranks 11th nationally and fifth among ECAC freshmen in points per game by a rookie (1.11). A former standout with the Washington Pride, Harrison has also posted a power play tally and is a plus-4 on the season.
Wright, a junior forward who hails from Oakville, Ont., was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after recording a goal and two assists last week. She assisted on the game-winning tally and the team's fourth goal against the Bears and then tallied a power play marker in the win over the Bulldogs. A former standout with the Oakville Ice, Wright is third on the team in scoring with eight points on three goals and five assists. She also has two power play markers and two game-winning goals.
A sophomore goaltender out of Toronto, Ont., van der Bliek earned her recognition after posting a 2-0-0 record last week. She backstopped the Engineers to the win against Brown, making just seven saves and then posted 22 stops in the victory over Yale. In seven appearances this season, all as a starter, van der Bliek is 4-3-0 with a 2.02 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. The former Toronto Jr. Aeros standout is among the national leaders in goals against average and save percentage, ranking 20th and 27th, respectively.
The women's hockey team, which is 5-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in ECAC Hockey, returns to action this weekend when they travel to #3 Harvard and #5 Dartmouth on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively.
