TROY, N.Y. - Junior Sandy Turnbull scored twice and three others had single goals as the Rensselaer field hockey team defeated Morrisville State, 5-1, in a non-league game at Harkness Field.  RPI, which outshot the Mustangs 30-4, improves to 3-10.  With the victory, Rensselaer head coach Bridget LaNoir ties the school record for career wins with 70.  Morrisville falls to 5-12.

RPI led 3-0 at the half thanks, in part, to a 10-0 advantage in shots and 9-0 edge in penalty corners.  Junior Jessica Corrigan (South Burlington, VT/Northfield Mount Hermon) opened the scoring at 19:36 of the first half.  Turnbull (Upperville, VA/Chatham Hall) made it 2-0 at 26:38 and Molly Johnston (Ivoryton, CT/Valley Regional) put the home team ahead by three goals at 31:55.  All three goals came from close range and were assisted.

Turnbull made it a four-goal advantage 10 minutes into the second half and sophomore Julie Campbell (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) scored off a penalty corner at 57:08.  Junior Lauren Bordonaro (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) broke the shutout bid with a goal for the visitors at 61:18.

Sophomore Briana Earle (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) made three saves in the win, while two Mustangs combined to make 10 saves.  Freshman Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) stopped three shots in the first half and senior Stephanie Smith had seven saves in the second frame.

RPI, which held a 21-5 bulge in penalty corners, returns to action on Sunday against #16 Stevens Tech. at Harkness Field (1pm).  The Mustangs are idle until October 24 when they host Wilson College at 2pm.
