BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Julia Marty had a four-point afternoon and junior Florence Schelling stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced as Northeastern University defeated Rensselaer, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon.  The Huskies, who have now won four straight, improve to 5-1-0 on the season, while the Engineers drop to 1-4-2 overall.

Northeastern came out firing in the opening stanza, taking a 2-0 lead behind goals from sophomores Casey Pickett and Rachel Llanes.  Both connected off of feeds from Marty, who finished with three assists in the game.  Picket scored at the 6:22 mark, then Llanes added her fifth of the season at the 17:19 mark.  That tally marked the first of three power play goals from the homestanding Huskies.

Junior Stephanie Gavronsky made it a 3-0 lead for Northeastern in the second period as she fired one past RPI netminder Sonja van der Bliek at 19:47 with the man-advantage.  Pickett and Marty were credited with the assists.

With sophomore Shannon Ramelot between the pipes for Rensselaer in the final period, the Huskies continued to press, scoring at 6:45 on a marker by freshman Katie MacSorley.

The Engineers finally broke onto the scoreboard at 11:30 as sophomore Taylor Horton scored her second goal in as many games off a pass from junior Jill Vandegrift to cut the deficit to 4-1.  But it was Northeastern who wrapped up the scoring as Marty scored with five seconds remaining on the power play.

RPI held the shot advantage for the game with a 26-22 margin and saw van der Bliek made 13 stops in 40 minutes of action.  She took the loss and is now 1-4-1 on the year.  Ramelot played the final stanza, making four saves.

The Engineers are back on the ice next weekend when they open ECAC Hockey play in the North Country.  RPI visits St. Lawrence on Friday (7pm) and battles Clarkson the next day (4pm).  Northeastern also opens their conference schedule next weekend, hosting Hockey East foe Vermont for a pair of games on Friday (5pm) and Saturday (3pm).
