SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior captain Margot Scharfe scored two goals to lead the Syracuse University women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this afternoon in non-league action from Tennity Ice Pavilion. With the win the Orange improve to 8-5-1 overall, while the Engineers drop to 2-10-2.

Junior Sadie St. Germain (Ashburnham, MA/The Berkshire School) got the hosts on the board first when she swatted a puck out of the air and into the net for her second goal of the season. She was assisted by freshman Nicole Renault (Plymouth, MI/Little Caesar's U19) and junior Caitlin Roach (Dearborn, MI/Honeybaked).

The Engineers had a number of opportunities late in the first period, but were unable to solve Orange junior goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater (Brantford, ON/Stoney Creek), who finished with 17 saves.

After a scoreless second period, Syracuse doubled its lead on the power-play at 3:13 of the third. Freshman Melissa Piacentini (South Weymouth, MA/Assabet Valley U19) netted her third goal of the weekend and fifth of the season off a feed from sophomore Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School). Renault picked up the second helper.

Scharfe (Toronto, ON/Branksome Hall) then the scored the first of her two goals on the day. The first came on the power-play at 4:22 of the third. She then added an unassisted empty-net goal with 1:10 remaining in the contest.

Kelly O'Brien (Essex, WI/Madison Capitals) finished with 20 stops for Rensselaer. Freshman Alexa Gruschow (Mechanicburgh, PA/Washington Pride) recorded a team-high four shots, while sophomore Ali Svoboda (Arlington Heights, IL/Chicago Mission) had three.

The Engineers are back to ECAC Hockey action next weekend, when they visit Quinnipiac and Princeton on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively.
