TROY, NY -- Krista Yip-Chuck scored the gamewinner to lead Yale to a 2-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in women's ECAC Hockey action on Friday afternoon at Houston Field House. With the loss, the Engineers drop to 3-8-1 overall, with a 2-3-0 mark in ECAC play, while the Bulldogs earned their first win to move to 1-5-1, and 1-3-1 in league action.

Yale got on the board first, getting a power play goal from Taylor Marchin (Algonac, MI/Choate Rosemary Hall) just 3:14 into play. Two penalties on RPI sandwiched a roughing call for the Bulldogs, giving Yale a 5-on-4 power play. Stephanie Mock (Cape Coral, FL/Hotchkiss) passed the puck ahead to Phoebe Staenz (Zurch, Switzerland/Choate Rosemary Hall), who pushed it ahead past the depleated Engineer defense, where Marchin connected for the tally. Rensselaer attempted to power through the rest of the period, outshooting the Bulldogs, 12-2, but were unable to connect.

The Engineers got on the board early in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. In a scramble in front of the net, Toni Sanders (York PA/Susquehanna Rapids U-19) finally got a solid stick on the puck, pushing it past Yale goaltender Jaimie Leonoff (Montreal, PQ/Pomfret) 2:39 into play. Jenn Godin (Clarence Center, NY/Tabor Academy) and Mari Mankey (Coon Rapids, MN/Hopkins) assisted on the goal. Yale would respond later in the period though, as Yip-Chuck (Whitby, ON/All Saints) took assists from Janelle Ferrara (Winthrop, MA/Rivers) and Jamie Haddad (Wilbraham, MA/Deerfield Academy) at 14:16 to take a 2-1 advantage.

The two teams battled through a scoreless third period, despite a 12-5 shot differential in favor of the Engineers. Leonoff got in front of every Rensselaer opportunity to lead Yale to its first victory of the season.

For the game, RPI outshot Yale, 40-12, but the Engineers went 0-6 on power play opportunities. The Bulldogs held the advantage in faceoffs, 31-23. Rensselaer goaltender Kelly O'Brien (Sussex, WI/Madison Capitals) recorded 10 saves for the Engineers, while Leonoff finished with 39 for Yale.

Rensselaer will return to action on Saturday, hosting Brown in ECAC Hockey action at 3 p.m.
