TROY, N.Y. – USA Hockey has announced the 83 players that have been invited to the 2015 USA Hockey Women's National Festival, which will take place Aug. 11-16, at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) alumnae Jordan Smelker '14 is among the group.
The festival is an annual training session that will also be used to select two 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada, which will take place from Aug. 19-23 in Lake Placid. The U.S. entries will feature an Under-18 Select Team and Under-22 Select Team.
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Smelker appeared in 136 career games at RPI, scoring 34 goals and assisting on 52 more for 86 points. She ranks fifth in school history in games played and is just the second player to record 50 or more assists since the Engineers played their first full Division I schedule in 2006-07. She ranks third in points behind Naslund (105) and Alisa Harrison '12 (95) in the DI record books.
Smelker totaled 19 points during her senior season of 2013-14 season, including five goals and a team-high 14 assists. Playing in 31 games, she netted two power-play goals and was assessed 14 minor penalties for 28 minutes.
Continuing her career beyond graduating from RPI, Smelker spent the 2014-15 season with the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), posting eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 22 games. Compiling a +17 rating, she had one power play and two game-winning tallies. She also had one assist during the Blades Clarkson Cup Championship.
This Spring, Smelker was drafted and signed by the Boston Pride of the newly established National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), which is set to begin play this fall.
A former Team Alaska 19U standout, Smelker has been invited to multiple USA Hockey camps throughout her career, including the National Team Selection Camp in 2013. She was also a participant in the 2012 U.S. Women's National Team Winter Camp in Minnesota.
