HITTING THE ROAD
Rensselaer returns to ECAC Hockey Conference play this weekend as the Engineers travel to Brown Friday night (7pm) and Yale Saturday afternoon (3pm)…RPI enters the weekend 7th in the 12-team ECAC Hockey with Yale and Brown coming in tied for 9th and 11th, respectively.
SPLITS ON THE LAKE
Last weekend, RPI traveled Erie, Pa. to take on the Lakers of Mercyhurst in a non-conference double-header…the Hurst took game one 4-1 with the Engineers rallying for a 4-3 win in game two…junior Jamie Grigsby led Rensselaer with three points (one goal, two assists) on the weekend while sophomore Sabrina Repaci and senior Whitney Renn came up with three and two assists, respectively.
RPI LEADERS
The Engineers are led by Grigsby (four goals, six assists) and senior Shayna Tomlinson (three goals, seven assists) with ten points apiece…Repaci is third on the team in points with two goals and six assists for eight points…junior Makenna Thomas leads RPI in scoring with five netted shots on the season.
ENGINEERS GOALTENDING
Junior Lovisa Selander is 5-7-3 on the year with a 2.21 goal against average and a .933 save percentage with 15 starts…Selander has the 8th highest save percentage in the nation while ranking 4th in ECAC Hockey…junior Kira Bombay is 0-0-1 with the tie decision coming two weeks ago against New Hampshire.
ALL-TIME VS. BROWN
Rensselaer holds a 14-6-3 edge all-time over the Bears…after a 2-2 tie in their first meeting in Troy in January 2007, Brown took a 4-1 win a month later for its first win over RPI…the Engineers recorded their first win against the Bears in a 3-1 victory at Houston Field House on October 27, 2007… the series sits tied 5-5-1 when playing at Brown's Meehan Auditorium, with RPI taking the last three contests.
RECENTLY
The Engineers have taken the last seven meetings dating back to December 2014, outscoring the Bears 30-17.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Seniors Samantha Swanstrom (four goals, five assists) and Sam Donocan (three goals, six assists) lead Brown with nine points apiece…junior Cara Najjar leads the assist column with seven on the season, while sophomore Sena Hanson has netted a team high five goals…freshman Kaitijane Blumberg ranks 8th among ECACH rookies in scoring (two goals, four assists) with six points…Swanstrom has recorded five power play points (two goals, three assists), 9th best in ECACH, while Najjar ranks sixth among conference defensemen in scoring and 17th in the nation with eight points on seven assists and one goal…Swanstrom, Blumberg and Veronica Alois are all tied for 8th in the ECACH in power play goals with two apiece.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Calla Isaac (1-5-0) and freshman Lauren Rippy (0-4-0) have split the majority of the season for Brown, with Isaac holding a one game advantage…Isaac registers a 4.72 goal against average and a .882 save percentage while Rippy averages 6.07 goals against with a .844 save percentage.
2017-18 VS. BROWN
Rensselaer beat the Bears back in October 4-1 at Houston Field House during Family Weekend…Tomlinson netted RPI's first goal with Brown's Alley Rempe tying it up seven minutes later to make it 1-1 going into the third period…junior Josefine Hansen and Thomas each scored power play goals to put the Engineers back on top with Grigsby rounding out the scoring…Tomlinson recorded a team high three points on one goal and two assists, while Selander was credited with the win on a 26 save effort.
ALL-TIME VS. YALE
The Bulldogs hold an 8-12-5 record over Rensselaer dating back to November 2001, an 8-0 win in favor of Yale…after going 0-5-1, RPI came up with its first series win in a 2-1 battle at Houston Field House in November 2008…the Engineers are currently 3-7-2 at Ingalls Rink with the most current win coming in February 2013 (4-2 score).
RECENTLY
Yale holds a 2-6-2 edge in the last ten meetings…Rensselaer broke a seven game winless drought late last year in a 2-1 OT win in Troy…Grisgby scored both goals with Repaci recording two assists.
YALE LEADERS
Freshman Greta Skarzynski leads the Bulldogs with nine points on four goals and five assists…Skarzynski ranks fifth among ECACH rookies in scoring while coming in tied at 19th among freshman in points per game nationally (0.75)…junior Julia Yetman ranks second on the team with seven points (two goals, five assists) while junior Emma Vlasic (four goals, two assists) and senior Mallory Souliotis (one goal, five assists) are third with six points apiece…Vlasic is tied for 8th in the ECACH in power play goals with two.
BULLDOGS IN GOAL
Sophomore netminder Tera Hofmann (1-3-3) has started in seven games with a 2.59 goal against average and a .914 save percentage… freshman Gianna Meloni (0-2-1) and junior Kyra O'Brien (1-1-0) have split the remaining games with three and two starts, respectively…Meloni registers a 2.14 goal against average and a .918 save percentage while O'Brien averages 2.48 goals against with a .931 save percentage.
2017-18 VS. YALE
The Engineers tied Yale earlier this year in a 2-2 OT draw at Houston Field House…after second period power play goals from Hansen and Soulitotis put a tied score on the board, junior Aly Tremblay put the Engineers up 2-1 going into the second intermission…Yale's Courtney Pensavalle tied the game 2-2 ten minutes into the final period of regulation.
ALL ABOUT POWER PLAYS
Rensselaer is second in the nation and first in the ECACH in penalty kills going 41/44, killing 93.2% of power plays…on the offensive end, Thomas, Grigsby and Hansen are all tied for 8th in the ECACH in power play goals with two apiece.
SCORING DEFENSE
The Engineers have one of the highest producing defenses in the conference, ranking 4th in the ECACH in goals per game (2.12)…defensive scoring has been led by Hansen, Madeleine Burnett and Amanda Kimmerle, combining for 14 points on six goals and eight assists.
