TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Aliyah Lance and Mikayla Capelle joined sophomore Lauren Severson in the scoring column as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team blanked Carleton University, 3-0, in an exhibition game at the Houston Field House on Sunday afternoon. The Engineers open their regular season schedule next weekend when they visit Minnesota State-Mankato for a two game series.

RPI turned in a number of chances throughout the first period, including a shot off the post by Capelle (Dawson Creek, BC/Okanagan Hockey Academy) 14 minutes in. Less than a minute later, senior Jaimie Grigsby (Whitby, ON/Whitby Wolves) ripped a shot wide from the middle of the slot.

Lance (Edina, MN/Edina High School) finally opened the scoring for the hosts, stickhandling her way across the blue line and wiring a shot inside the left post. The unassisted tally, which came at 18:51 of the frame, occurred seconds after an RPI power play had ended.

Sophomore Lauren Severson (Rockford, IL/Madison Capitals) doubled the Engineers' lead 7:53 of the second, when she claimed a loose puck in the neutral zone and flew into the offensive zone, before snapping home a shot from the left circle. She beat Carleton netminder Katelyn Steele high, short side.

The Engineers took their 2-0 lead into the second intermission along with a 24-7 edge in shots. Senior captain Lovisa Selander (Sollentuna, Sweden/SDE Riksserien) stopped all seven shots she faced before giving way to classmate Kira Bombay (Orleans, ON/Nepean Widcats) for the third.

In the final frame, Capelle cleaned up a rebound at the right side of the Ravens goal, giving RPI its lone power play goal of the day. A shot from the left circle by junior Sabrina Repaci (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) left a rebound on the doorstep that was steered on goal once again by classmate Blake Orosz (Chase Mills, NY/Nepean Wildcats). The puck popped free towards the edge of the right circle for Capelle, who lifted a backhand over the fallen Steele for the marker.

RPI finished with a 42-14 advantage in shots and went 1 for 5 on the power play. Carleton was 0 for 5 on power play opportunities and received 39 saves from Steele. Bombay had seven stops in the third.
