TROY, N.Y. - Coming off a season in which it earned a top 4 finish and a bye into the Second Round of the ECAC Hockey Playoffs, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team has added 10 newcomers to its roster of 31 student-athletes. Among the additions to the Engineers, who are led by head coach
Dave Smith and assistants
Scott Moser and
Chuck Weber, are nine freshmen and a graduate transfer. There are seven forwards, two defensemen and a goaltender among them.

- Team GPA in spring 2020 was 3.78 (28 student-athletes) ... Cumulative GPA was 3.45 ... Both figures were the highest among all of Rensselaer's men's teams
- As a team the Engineers are committed to volunteerism, in particular with Street Soldiers in Downtown Troy, Wounded Warrior Project and STRIDE.
- Junior Ture Linden (Great Falls, VA / Lone Star Brahmas) Interned with CGI (business systems analyst) and TeraThink (operations) the past two summers.
- Shane Sellar (Carlisle, PA / Dartmouth College) played hockey in Sweden for a year when he was 13 years old.
- Sophomore Tristan Ashbrook (Manistique, MI / Lincoln Stars) has an uncle who attended Rensselaer.
- Cory Babichuk's (Edmonton, AB / Spruce Grove Saints) billet family was Todd Hilditch, a former RPI men's hockey player.
- Senior Billy Jerry (River Falls, WI / Madison Capitals) held an internship that included marketing and accounting. His brother played hockey at Canisius and the two of played each other in the 2019-20 season.
- Junior Jake Johnson (Bloomington, MN / Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) has had several different internships doing things like thermal energy studies, weekly sanitary studies in a food plant, as well as selling insurance.
- Sophomore Simon Kjellberg (Nashville, TN / Dubuque Fighting Saints) was chosen by the New York Rangers in the sixth round, 163rd overall, of the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft. His father played 394 games (forward) in the NHL with three different teams.
- Linden Marshall's (Victoria, BC / Trail Smoke Eaters) grandfather was an amateur boxing champion.
- Lauri Sertti (Espoo, Finland / Amarillo Bulls) captured a silver medal with the Finnish U20 Team in 2018-19.
- Brady Ferner (Dakota Dunes, SD / Sioux City Musketeers) had interned with Interbake Foods (quality manager). His father played college football (Northern State) and in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders (WR).
- Owen Savory (Cambridge, ON / St. Catharines Falcons) set the St. Catherines franchise records for single season wins and lowest goals against average in a career.
- Jake Gagnon's (Pointe-Claire, PQ / Wellington Dukes) brother captained Hamilton's hockey team.
- Brett Miller (Northville, MI / Austin Bruins) has reffed hockey since he was 13 years old.
- Sophomore Zach Dubinsky's (Highland Park, IL / Lincoln Stars) father played 375 games (forward) in the NHL with four different teams.
- Henri Schreifels (Newbury Park, CA / Victoria Grizzlies) grew up in California but is fluent in French. His Mom is from Switzerland and his Dad from Canada. His father is a swim coach at Cal Lutheran.
- Sophomore Louis Helsen (Dallas, TX / Amarillo Bulls) interned at Wilson Davis Co., where he helped open accounts and audit customer accounts.
- Jack Brackett's (Manassas, VA / Powell River Kings) great uncle (Larry Kopf) won a World Series in 1919 and his great grandfather (Herb Kopf) was the first freshman to play in the Rose Bowl. He went on to become a head coach in the NFL
- Sophomore Mason Klee's (Morrison, CO / Sioux Falls Stampede) father played 934 games (defense) in the NHL with seven different teams.
- John Beaton (Stittsville, ON / Youngstown Phantoms) was his high school's table tennis MVP and is related to Todd Gill, who played more than a 1,000 games in the NHL
- Dylan Davies (Traverse City, MI / Sioux Falls Stampede) is a serious piano player and his Dad played hockey at Kent State.
