Drover-Mattinen Repeats as Player of the Year and Satkowski Voted Coach of the Year as Men's Tennis Well Represented on All-Liberty League Lists

TROY, NY - Four members of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team were voted to the All-Liberty League teams in the singles categories. Two Engineers doubles squads also earned All-League honors and senior Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Head Coach Jon Satkowski were named the conference Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Drover-Mattinen posted an overall record of 31-1 in the regular season, including an unbeaten mark of 17-0 (7-0 Liberty League) at number one singles for the Engineers in dual matches. In the fall, he won the singles title at the ITA Northeast Regional and earned a spot in the ITA Cup, where he advanced to the semifinals. He is currently ranked second in the Northeast Region and sixth in Division III. In doubles, Drover-Mattinen teamed up with Andy Zhu, who also received first team All-Liberty League singles accolades alongside Drover-Mattinen and freshman teammate Archie Yemula. Tsubasa Okada rounded out the singles honorees with selection to the All-League Honorable Mention list.

Drover-Mattinen and Zhu were named to first team All-Conference doubles team after going 12-6 in the top doubles slot. The pair closed out the regular season at 21-10 overall, which included a 14-1 record at in-season tournaments. They earned a spot in the ITA Cup after clinching the doubles title at the ITA Northeast Regional this past fall. The duo are currently ranked second in the Northeast Region. The Engineers also saw the doubles team of Okada and Joel McCandless land on the All-Conference second team.

There is still some tennis to be played this spring as Drover-Mattinen and Zhu will represent RPI in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis singles and doubles tournament this week. Drover-Mattinen will take part in singles for the fourth straight year, and will compete in doubles with Zhu for the second consecutive season from May 19-26 in Claremont, Calif.
