MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's indoor track & field team produced a series of podium finishes and and top-eight results at the Middlebury Invitational today.
RPI showcased its depth in the mile as three Engineers placed in the top eight.
Evan Morrow led the way with a fourth-place time of 4:26.22, followed closely by Nicholas McCauley in sixth at 4:27.44 and
Alton Francisco in eighth at 4:31.03.
Sam Aubut added a strong third-place showing in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:08.10.
The sprints and hurdles group also excelled, as
Dillen Owusu placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.13, while teammates
Caius Leung (4th, 9.55) and Jack Currie (5th, 9.91) joined him in the top five.
Temitayo Oladeji earned top-four finishes in both the 60 meters (4th, 7.30) and 200 meters (3rd, 23.92), putting together a strong sprint double for the Engineers.
RPI found great success in the jumps, led by a victory from Leung in the triple jump with a top mark of 12.22 meters. The high jump group added a trio of scorers, with
Arthur Hrycak and
Dillen Owusu each clearing 1.77 meters to finish third and fourth, respectively, and Jack Currie placing sixth with a mark of 1.52 meters.
The throwing corps dominated both their events, sweeping the podium in the shot put and placing five among the top seven in the weight throw.
Paul Sussman led the way with victories in both events, winning the shot put with a throw of 13.59 meters and taking the weight throw at 15.42 meters. He was followed in the shot put by
Javier Bedoya (3rd, 12.81m),
Tristan Mangin (4th, 12.72m), and
Jack Chappa (5th, 12.67m).Â
In the weight throw,
Colby Grove (3rd, 14.76m),
Max Fetah (5th, 14.41m), Mangin (6th, 13.41m), and Bedoya (7th, 13.41m) contributed to one of the team's most dominant events of the meet.
The Engineers are slated to next compete in Middlebury on Sunday, February 1.
